Handicapped services help people who are disabled and handicapped function and take care of themselves with minimal help from an outside source. Every disability and handicap is unique and requires special assistance to facilitate independent living for the handicapped person. There are two types of handicapped disabled. A handicap can be a physical impairment that prevents mobility and the ability to do physical activities. There are also physical impairments that prevent proper social functioning like vision impairment or the inability to speak. Some handicapped persons with cognitive disabilities are able to live alone in handicapped housing with the use of medicine and handicap services that help to monitor and stabilize their behavior. |

| Handicapped housing may have extra railing, a ramp, and a more spacious floor design for a person that uses a wheel chair. Doors may be opened by buttons. Some vehicles can be outfitted with handicapped equipment like a wheelchair lift to help a handicapped person enter and exit the vehicle. Special handicapped equipment can be used to modify a car and make it possible for certain handicapped persons to be able to pilot an automobile on their own. For handicapped persons who have a desire to go to school there are scholarships that help aid them in paying for the cost. |

There are also federal grants in the United States that help provide vocational training to help a disabled person find employment. For disabled persons that are unable to work there is Social security disability and welfare that can provide a monthly income. There are certain laws that require a business to provide a minimum level of handicapped accessibility. If your business does not have proper facilities to allow handicapped access, you may receive fines and fees. Public institutions are required to have handicapped access. It is common to find Braille on door signs inside public buildings to increase handicapped accessibility. |
