Health and fitness is being in good, solid bodily health and comes from a consistent exercise regiment, proper diet, nutrition and adequate rest and recovery periods. Key factors that help gauge physical health is the height and weight of an individual. Proper growth comes as a result of proper nutrition and quality health care. Genetics also play a role in the quality of one's health. And there is correlation between strong physical health and strong mental health. And the combination of physical, emotional, social health and mental well-being is what produces the ultimate picture of health.
According to studies, there are four general factors that determine health. Those determinants are human biology, environment, lifestyle and healthcare services. Health can be maintained and improved by the advancement and application of science, and by individuals making intelligent choices in their lifestyles and society. Environment also is a factor in health, because the quality of water, especially for infants and children, can make a difference. Poor water quality can lead to diseases and disorders and poor development in children. Poorer countries and areas are an example of this as health problems are traced back to disease in the water.
Nutrition and nourishment also are key factors in physical fitness. Poor diet impacts health in a negative way, causing deficiency, diseases, obesity and metabolism problems. Improper diet also can lead to cardiovascular disease, diabetes and osteoporosis. A nutritious diet is one that is well-balanced in healthy carbohydrates, fats, fibers, minerals, proteins, vitamins and plentiful water consumption. Nutrients provide energy in the form of calories. It is important that the calories consumed are easy to burn. A nutritious diet also is one that is rich in antioxidants. Taking health supplements such as vitamins also help induce strong health and fitness.
Mental health, meanwhile, involves an individuals emotional and psychological state. According to Merriam-Webster, mental health is a state of emotional and psychological well-being in which an individual is able to use his or her cognitive and emotional capabilities, function in society and meet the ordinary demands of everyday life. But mental health and mental illness remains hard to define. Differences in cultures have some affect on how it is perceived. And the cause of mental illness remains somewhat of a mystery. But scientists are constantly working to get a better grasp of mental illness, it's causes and ways to treat it.
Health insurance is another factor that can help ensure strong physical fitness. Health insurance pays for medical expenses. It can be used to include coverage of disabilities, or long-term nursing or custodial care. It may be purchased as a group, meaning by a company that provides coverage for it's employees, or purchased by individuals. Individuals pay varying premiums depending on their health plans. Their health plans also require them to play deductibles. Individuals with strong health insurance coverage, they are more likely to get annual checkups and seek medical care when they are under the weather, thus ensuring that illnesses don't persist.
