| Home Maintenance |
|
Home maintenance involves the upkeep of a home, diagnosing and finding a resolution to problems within the house and then conducting the repairs. Regular home maintenance helps avoid many problems. If a home isn't properly maintained, then the deterioration will begin and call for extensive and costly repairs. Home maintenance may involve small do-it-yourself projects to keep things up to date. And while home maintenance costs vary, conducting them is an investment, and a money saver of sorts compared to the damage control that could have to be done if the general home maintenance projects go on neglected. |

| The simplest repairs often mean replacing worn, deteriorating or used components such as pipes, fixtures, light bulbs, batteries, vacuum cleaner bags other items that are intended to last only for a certain matter of times. It's often helpful to make a home maintenance checklist when setting up a maintenance program. Other repairs require restoring items to useful condition. This includes replacing leaky faucet fixtures and washers, cleaning out plumbing traps, cleaning gutters. Specialized tools may be required for certain extensive jobs and because of potential for hazards, it is often best to hire home maintenance contractors handle certain home maintenance repairs. |
|
| Broken and or damaged items are difficult enough to replace, but in today's modern age of built-in obsolescences, it's often more convenient to replace items rather than try to repair them. A repairman faces tasks of giving accurate assessments of problems, then finding the materials, supplies and tools necessary to repair the broken item. Home maintenance contractors may need to be hired if it is an area of specialty or expertise that the repair man is not well-versed in. Repairs such as holes in plaster, removing stains, repairing cracked windows or torn screens and fixing faulty electrical outlets aren't complicated repairs. |

But broken water pipes, broken doors, a leaky roof or water tank are all damages that must quickly be addressed. A home owner must regularly monitor these areas to prevent gradual buildup of deterioration which would lead to further damage or loss. Other areas that could be added to the annual home maintenance checklist is testing and adjusting alarm systems, central heating and cooling systems, air filters, water treatment components, defrosting a freezer, dusting or vacuuming refrigerator coils, emptying gutters, touching up house paint and weather seals, and cleaning out chimneys. A chimney sweep may need to be hired, however.

Often neglected items on home maintenance are landscaping, window cleaning, power washing the surface of the house and additional buildings. They are just as important however, because they pay for themselves. One must be careful and take proper safety measures when conducting certain chores. Operating heavy machinery could put an individual at risk, as could climbing up ladders or on roofs. If a homeowner is unable to do so because of age or physical condition, hiring a professional maintenance man is the best course of action. And while it may cost more money, it is worth the cost because the owner is maintaining their own safety. |
