Legal
The legal system is an extensive set of rules that are enforced and used to ensure and instill civil obedience, politics, economics and a peaceful and wholesome society. Law serves as the chief social mediator between people. According to the great Greek philosopher Aristotle, “The rule of law is better than the rule of any individual.” A wide array of disciplines and legal documents make law. Legal contracts are binding agreements that relate to everything from purchase, to trading. Law also defines property rights and obligations when it comes to the transfer and title of personal and real and personal property.
The category of law that allows for claims of compensation if an individual or their property is injured or harmed is called Tort law. If the harm falls under criminal category, then the state can prosecute the offender. Law providing the framework for the creation of law, the protection of human rights and for the political system is called Constitutional law. Law that regulates the activities of administrative agencies and government is Administrative law. Law that rules over the affairs between nations involved in trade, regulation or military action is International law. Federal law is law that is created by the federal government.
Legal systems may operate differently depending on the country, but all deal with similar issues and behaviors. And each country has different categories of what identifies its legal standards and principals. One of the most common distinctions is between public law (which is related closely to the state, and includes constitutional, administrative and criminal law) and private law (which involves tort and real estate law). In civil systems, contract and tort law fall under a general set of legal obligations. International, constitutional, administrative, criminal, contract, tort, property law and trusts are the traditional core subjects of law.
A person who practices law is called a lawyer. In order to practice law, one must first attend a four-year college and then three years of law school before they are allowed to take the test that determines whether or not they are allowed to practice. After earning a bachelor's degree, an individual must take the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT). They then must apply to a law school, which take the college GPA and LSAT score into account and determine acceptance. After graduating from law school, which takes a minimum of three years, the bar exam is taken.
Lawyers have many tasks, but their tasks differ depending on the country. In some countries, many of the legal tasks are given to notaries and clerks. Lawyers, also known as attorneys, act on behalf of another person in some capacity. An attorney is like an agent in some areas, for example in business, property and personal matters. An attorney or lawyer represents clients in legal matters as well and tries to act with that person's best interest in mind. A prosecuting attorney tries law cases on behalf of the state, pursuing those who break the law, working to hold them accountable.
