| Saxaphone Lessons |
|
The saxophone is a complicated and sophisticated instrument. It was first invented in 1841 by Adolphe Sax, so compared to other instruments like the piano or clarinet it is a relatively recent one. The design of the saxophone made it a natural fit for a military band, as it was created to combine the sound of a brass instrument with the easy mobility of a woodwind. After finding strong use in military marching music, the saxophone was adapted into other styles such as big band music, swing music, the blues, rock and roll and jazz. Jazz music is the style which the saxophone is most associated with today in the popular mind. |

There are many types of saxophone, ranging from the baritone saxophone on the low end of the scale to the soprano saxophone at the high end. The order goes baritone saxophone, tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, soprano saxophone, and there are still others for further extremes. The saxophones which are used for military bands are pitched to the base notes of B flat and E flat. Some classical orchestral saxophones are pitched to the notes of C and F, but that is very uncommon today.

| Saxophone lessons start out with many of the same parts of theory which are taught in keyboard lessons, violin lessons, or any other music lessons. One begins with the basic techniques for playing a note, followed by learning how to play scales, and how to read music and apply music theory to one's playing. Saxophone lessons become more specific to the instrument as time goes on, and one learns more about how to coax specific sounds out of the instrument through the correct lip positions, fingering and breathing. |

One can take saxophone lessons at a local music school, at a community center, at a university, from a private teacher or even online. Online saxophone lessons can be used to learn many of the basics by watching free videos on the internet. A class with other saxophone players will help you to get a good grasp of the basic techniques and start to develop a repetoire, while private lessons with a local teacher can ensure that you are making steady progress and picking up new techniques while honing your existing skills.
