Childbirth normally occurs at the completion of a pregnancy calendar, which is 38 weeks after fertilization, which happens as a result of sexual intercourse between a male and female and is generally in humans called conception. This is roughly 40 weeks after a woman's last normal menstrual period. A normal delivery date is considered to be within two weeks of the calculated date on the pregnancy calendar. The calculation of this date comes with the assumption of a regular 28-day period. So a full-term pregnancy lasts roughly nine months although when the beginning of life is a controversial debate.

Pregnancy symptoms can differ depending on the woman and the pregnancy. But one of the most significant pregnancy symptoms is the woman missing her menstrual cycle. It is important to understand the signs and symptoms of pregnancy because each symptom may be related to something other than pregnancy. Some women experience pregnancy symptoms within a week of conception. Other pregnancy symptoms include swollen and or tender breasts, fatigue, nausea/morning sickness, backaches, headaches, frequent urination and food cravings. When a woman suspects that she could be pregnant, even if she is experiencing the above symptoms, she should take a pregnancy test.

There are six pregnancy signs that indicate the beginning of labor. One is an easier time breathing when the baby drops deeper into the pelvis. Bloody show, which indicates the loss of the mucus plug, is a thick plug of mucus that protects the cervical opening but is discharged when labor begins. The release of amniotic fluids, or “water breaking” is another. Another sign is a spurt of energy, which is often called nesting because a mother uses the burst to ready the house for the arrival. The thinning of the cervix and dilation of the cervix are the final signs. |
